Studio Visit

Dec 08, 2014 - Sarah Straßmann

Welcome to my studio space! Today I would like to give you a small view behind the scene of my Berlin-Reinickendorf based studio. Reinickendorf is a northern part of Berlin, located next to Wedding. You can reach »Berlin Mitte« (the main city centre) in round about 15 min. by subway – that’s quite comfortable. My studio is a part of the studio floor AR_29, which was founded in March 2013. The floor belongs to a supported studio program of the Berlin senate, the »Berlin Studio Program«. This program offers funded artist’s studios throughout Berlin. It is aimed at artists who live and work in Berlin. Available studios are advertised through the office of the »Kulturwerk bbk berlin«and allocated by an independent jury. The allocation is made according to social and professional urgency. The Berlin studio program is an infrastructure programme: it provides spaces for artistic work and thereby the diversity of artistic production. The studio office in the »Kulturwerk« is the central contact point for all artists living and working in Berlin who are seeking a studio. It advises on studio searches, supports the conservation of existing studios and ensures transparency and equality in the allocation of publicly funded studios. The studio floor AR_29 is located on the seccond floor of the industrial court Alt-Reinickendorf 29 and accommodates 21 artist studios. The spaces are available to professional artists as production place for painting, graphics, photography, video, sculpture/ object, installation, performance among other things. In April 2014 nearly all members of AR_29 have organised an »Open Studio« weekend. From Saturday till Sunday interested visitors could look behind the doors. In addition guided tours and artist talks were organised in cooperation with the Kulturamt Reinickendorf. You may follow upcoming activities like the next Open Studio weekend in April 2015 on the running Blog of AR_29 here or on facebook. Any Questions?
