Lucie Awards 2014: Photography Magazine of the Year
On Sunday November 2nd, the annual ceremony of the Lucie Awards took place at Carnegie Hall for the 12th consecutive year. With the seventh issue of it’s print magazine, DER GREIF won the Lucie Award in the »Photography Magazine of the Year« category, one of the most coveted prizes in the industry. DER GREIF was nominated together with some of the worlds greatest photography magazines, such as The British Journal of Photography (UK), Aperture Magazine (USA), 1000 Words Magazine (UK), Photo 8 (UK) and Blow Photo (Ireland). Because of its unique concept and innovative combination of analog and digital media, DER GREIF convinced the jury and prevailed over the international avant-garde of photography magazines. Among others Nan Goldin, Carrie Mae Weems, Martin Parr and Nick Ut were honoured for their achievements in photography.
Simon Karlstetter, artistic co-director and founder of the magazine, explains: »DER GREIF has been an internationally accepted and renowned project for years, but now – winning this award – it meets on par with the biggest and most prestigious photography magazines in the world. We felt honored just being nominated, but receiving this award personally on stage in New York City exceeded our expectations. Without the trust of all thousands of participating photographers and authors from all over the world, as well as our partners and supporters this would never have been possible.«
