Profile

Hesse & Romier

Photographer

Cécile Hesse (77) et Gaël Romier (74) live and work together since 1998. They met and studied at the photography school of Vevey, Switzerland, where they obtained their degrees in 2000. After a few years of an urban life, they settled in a remote house in Auvergne, France. It was an important step in their production, patiently elaborated behind close doors. They explore intimacy and otherness in a work inspired by daily life, sometimes soft, sometimes fierce. Their works has been shown in several European places, such as Pasquart in Bien (CH), TH13 Galerie of the Hermès Foundation in Bern (CH), the Museum of contemporary art in Lyon (FR), Neuchâtel Art Center or Fotonoviembre, Tenerife (SP). They work today in residency at the Art Center an Photographique research Center Gwinzegal (FR), exploring a quiet form of barbarity, a foreign language proposing mute images, however loud as new borns.
