Joel Jimenez

Joel Jimenez (b. 1993) is a visual artist, cinematographer, and independent curator who lives and works between Costa Rica and Spain. His research-driven work explores themes associated with environmental psychology, place-identity, and the role of memory in our conception of history, perception of reality, and understanding of time. His projects are interested in the in-between states, the emotional climate that emerges from stagnant conditions, and the atmospheric experience of silence, solitude, and nostalgia. Joel was selected as one of LensCulture's Emerging Talents in 2018 and nominated for the prestigious Prix Levallois in 2019. His most recent project, titled Castle of Innocence (ongoing), was selected for the portfolio review section of PhotoEspaƱa and Encontros da Imagem photo festivals. His work has been exhibited widely, and his projects have been reviewed and featured by internationally recognized platforms such as GUP, PHmuseum, LensCulture, Yogurt Magazine, Revista Balam, L'oeil de la Photographie, C41 Magazine, and Ain't Bad.
