In archeology, soil horizons can indicate time periods and depositional activity. By studying the color and composition of sediment one can tell a lot about the environment, the weather, and the overall climate of a particular era. What will be said about the era of inundated, displaced digital images?
Similarly, they collect, puddle up, dissolve, and linger overtime on the internet. They get covered up and obscured by brighter, bolder imagery, a process that is so relentless that it’s hard to see anything at all. Yet the amalgamation of all these digital artifacts creates a kind of cultural composition that reflects back at us something if we only look long enough to see the connections.
