Apart from following the obvious line of my family’s historical data through documents and records of events, I was even more interested in finding the traces and residues of that history on the family members’ bodies and faces.

Some histories are more distant and some events are not recorded but they ripple through lives manifesting their disruptive charge in the form of emotional and physical perturbations. In that sense, hypothetically, bodies may serve as an indirect record of all what is beyond the reach of memory and documentation.

Approaching the surfaces as landscapes, almost geomorphologically, I sought the reflections of the force that shaped their relief from within. I hoped that the apparent textures might indicate the outline of the permeating presence that motivated this work.
