Charlotte Schreiber – looking at the sun through tears (excerpts)
Nov 26, 2016 - Anna Ziegler
„I stretch my nose towards the sun and let the wind blow through all the layers of my clothes. I wonder if the heavy breeze will even sweep away all my thoughts. Maybe, if I’ll hold up my head just long enough.
An old man approaches me and tells me about his life, well, or about how his day has been so far. I don’t know, as I do not understand his words. He doesn’t seem bothered by that at all and smiles a big warm smile. „Gomen nasai, Gomen nasai, wakarimasen“, is what I say. „I’m sorry, I’m truly sorry, I don’t understand.“ He sits down next to me and turns his face towards the sun. Now, we’re silently in this together, staring at the water, watching one ship after another passing by. After an hour he stands up and bows. I nod back and remain seated, looking at the sun through tears.“
silent observations of the unknown – a meditation. Excerpts of Charlotte Schreiber´s upcoming book „looking at the sun through tears“, a journey through Japan.
