In der Marmelade schwimmen Fische
Jul 18, 2014 - Jana Lange
Questions about the being there, about perceptions, about reality and fiction provide the basis for my artistic work. What is real and what is fictive? Where is the difference respectively where is the line? Altogether is there any line? Realities are created. They are created by societies and by every single person. What is reality for one person can be fiction for another. The same attributes can be considered as supernatural or godlike in the one society, while it is considered as mentally disordered in the other. People with "mental illness" fall out of line, out of the society created reality, while the society, falls out of mentally ill persons` reality. I live in my own reality and at the same time, I am part of the reality of someone else. I see and at the same time, i am seen by someone else. My camera helps me to find my reality, helps me to realize the important things for my reality. I try not to think, but to feel and then translate my feelings with my camera. So, the motif is not located in front of the camera, instead it is inside of me. The motif is me, the photograph is my reality. I created this work in the context of my residency in the little village Willingshausen in the middle of Germany. I lived there for the past 3 month in an old "shephers`s cottage", built in 1562. I found my inspiration at the cow pasture I used to be for hours many days, observing the animals. They are living in this small area everyday without many new impressions from outside, but still they found their way to deal with it and they seem to be happy in there little cosmos. Also very inspiring for me have been conversations with the village people. Conversations about living and dying. I combine my own pictures with pictures taken by NASA, pictures with a view from space down to earth. For me it`s important to show that closeness is always related to distance. "In der Marmelade schwimmen Fische" / "In the marmalade there are fish swimming " is on show at Kunsthalle Willingshausen, Willingshausen from June 17th till July 20th. A catalog will be published soon!
