Every week an artist whose single image was published by Der Greif is given a platform in which to blog about contemporary photography.
Lena Amuat & Zoë Meyer – Mathematische Modelle
Jan 31, 2017 - Ignasi Casas and John Gribben
I randomly discovered Mathematische Modelle in a bookshop in London. I was captivated by the yellow cover as it had pictures actually attached to it. I thought that this made this book also a particularly nice object.
Once opened, a collection of amazing objects are displayed in almost a catalogue-like fashion.
The way that Lena and Zoe photograph those objects is very direct and simple, almost cold.
Some have a simple background and others more complex ones; always achieving very interesting colour palettes.
The objects look like they were taken for a bizarre museum and are all somehow related with mathematical models describing geometry and movement. It feels like a slightly uncomfortable memory about human knowledge.
Lena’s and Zoe’s work gravitates around objects that represent different knowledge systems such as educational tools or religious objects and they usually present their images through installations.
