This is a portrait of my twin sister. My sister was my first friend and collaborator. I’ve been photographing her for various personal projects for more than 20 years. This image was particularly special as she was eight months pregnant with her daughter. 

“Mother and Child” was made in a makeshift studio in my mom’s living room and is a re-interpretation of the traditional Guadalupe imagery. My sister is surrounded by roses, an important symbol of Guadalupe’s iconography. Her turquoise robe is an updated version of Guadalupe’s traditional mantel.
