Anna Ziegler - fleur-de-lis
Nov 23, 2016
“fleur-de-lis” is an open, never ending quest for the meaning of things. Around the Lily as a central motive of transience the corpus of the work plays with the human desire of reproduction, the pursuit to remain and to leave marks.
It shows the human body in its natural form, in its purity, its sexuality, it looks at stages of blooming and decay. The male and female bodies are intertwined, merging aside remainders.
In contrast to the constant change stands the static materiality: cold geology and mythical stories of primordial times.
“fleur de lis” reads and interprets Vanitas as the central motive of human existence, as a search for unity, as ever the same question and the pain of the inevitable answer.
Artist Blog

Johannes Kuczera – dusk
Nov 29, 2016 - Anna Ziegler
Everything comes together in this painting like photograph of icelandic landscape. The power and magic of the simultaneous presence and absence of light, the mystery of an unknown place which has unimaginable natural powers that are physically explainable yet leave behind nothing but wonder and awe. It is a place of great desire that a lot us long for. I am only left to be captivated by the image of the sublime which is only a product of my gaze. I need to step outside myself to find what I need within myself.
Martin Lamberty – Dream for sale
Nov 27, 2016 - Anna Ziegler
The largest lake of California has a person thinking of lush green landscapes with a rich flora and fauna. It was the desertlike surroundings that struck me most when I first arrived. Ruinous houses everywhere, old piers indicate former water levels, stranded boats now only fit for scrap, inhabitants that seem a lot less euphoric than the postcards from the 1950’s promised. Wandering around in this wasteland words like desolate and barren come to mind. Why do people hold on to this place? For what reason do they stay and fight against nature although there is no recovery in sight?
The American Dream is a theoretical construct which serves as the base upon which an entire system of beliefs was built. Independence, freedom, the possibility to cultivate land and the conviction to be able to achieve everything by hard work are at the core. These agents have beckoned people to the new world for centuries. At times the American Dream can be adventurous, even hazardous. It may appear to be a path gone astray, even to be a lost cause. Considering the frontier spirit one might critically bring into question at which point holding on to a chosen path turns into an aberration. Does a secluded life in a desert qualify as a dream come true?

Charlotte Schreiber – looking at the sun through tears (excerpts)
Nov 26, 2016 - Anna Ziegler
„I stretch my nose towards the sun and let the wind blow through all the layers of my clothes. I wonder if the heavy breeze will even sweep away all my thoughts. Maybe, if I’ll hold up my head just long enough.
An old man approaches me and tells me about his life, well, or about how his day has been so far. I don’t know, as I do not understand his words. He doesn’t seem bothered by that at all and smiles a big warm smile. „Gomen nasai, Gomen nasai, wakarimasen“, is what I say. „I’m sorry, I’m truly sorry, I don’t understand.“ He sits down next to me and turns his face towards the sun. Now, we’re silently in this together, staring at the water, watching one ship after another passing by. After an hour he stands up and bows. I nod back and remain seated, looking at the sun through tears.“
silent observations of the unknown – a meditation. Excerpts of Charlotte Schreiber´s upcoming book „looking at the sun through tears“, a journey through Japan.
Marina Rosa Weigl – LUX (excerpts)
Nov 25, 2016 - Anna Ziegler
„The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.“ – Albert Einstein
Marina Rosa Weigl´s work LUX is poetic reflection of the power of light.
The aesthetic effect of light eludes itself from measurability and predictability. Even the seemingly simple term of brightness, ranging from bright to dark, is deeply subjective. Light is immaterial yet visible, it can be an object and a phenomenon at the same time.
