Christian Michael Filardo - Gerontion

Jul 08, 2020

“Thou hast nor youth nor age, but as it were an after dinner sleep, dreaming of both.” I think Gerontion functions as both a record of beauty and suffering simultaneously, somewhere between a dream and reality. It’s intimate but makes broad strokes, I think my photographs and writing do the same, referencing painting, art history, social media, post modern existence, etc.

The book was designed by Dianne Weinthal and myself. Gerontion is sequenced to move through color pattern and dance with the writing. If you noticed, the images change in color palette as you progress through the book. We wanted to use the plastic library jacket on the outside to function as a nod towards the library and academia and house a risograph print within the jacket to make a nod towards my typical “punk” approach to art making. This way it can function in the library setting and at the record store.
