Forage and Gather in a project that started in 2015 while living in Upstate New York. The series approaches the discarded as an intimate repository of sedimented histories, emphasizing the truths to be found within the seemingly mundane. In the photographs, dilapidated buildings and neglected items come to hold a subjectivity of their own, though they point as well to those human actors left un-pictured. Capitalist accumulation is evoked by way of its corollary—the landscapes of forgotten junk that collect on the periphery. Here clusters of dispensed objects are imbued with a decidedly anthropomorphic quality; becoming glimpses of a makeshift ecosystem of dirt, trash, car seats and rotted wood allowing the glacial temporality of deterioration to come to the fore.
