Photographer's saliva on family album archive.
'The saliva replaces the seminal fluid in many cultures, used as magical element that can cure and fecundate through the single contact. Since it comes from the mouth and preserves the vital energy, it is often associated to the essence of the breath and the soul.' (Craveri E. Michela,Intrecci di culture, 2008)
The photographic archive is an element that always belongs to the past; it grows old with us, it is part of ourselves but it slowly builds up a gap between our memories and the present time.
The inclusion of saliva (a fluid certifying identity) on the photographic surface, creates a layer of contingent “presence”, intimate re-appropriation of the family archive, attempting to 'cure' the fallacious nature of memory and to 'fecundate' its connection with our current time. Saliva is thus the glue that keeps together two dimensions: the motionless time of photography and the contingency of identity.

Alice Myers, ‘Nothing is Impossible Under the Sun’

The Photographers' Gallery is the largest public gallery in London dedicated to photography. Besides the world famous Deutsche Börse Photography Prize, which every year rewards a photographer who has made the most significant contribution to the medium, the gallery runs a number of other initiatives.
FreshFaced+WildEyed, for instance, is a prestigious annual photography competition with the aim of showcasing the best work for recent graduates. Alice Myers's project 'Nothing is Impossible Under the Sun' was selected this year, also it was the one that struck me the most. The project is about the hordes of clandestine migrants trapped in Calais, ''the French port closest to the United Kingdom. It is not known how many people attempt to cross the border here without documents.'' (Alice Myers)
'Nothing is Impossible Under the Sun' is a book combining drawings, writing and photographs shaping a complex representation of refugees and asylum seekers.

I was born in Rimini in 1986, a city located on the Adriatic sea in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. It is one of the most famous seaside resorts in Europe. Even though the identity of Rimini has always been rooted in mainstream tourism, the city has hosted a good amount of high quality cultural initiatives over the last few decades. Its creative scene however, has never been so dynamic and cutting edge as in the last four-five years. Some of the city's historical buildings have been turned into creative venues where people can enjoy experimental art and music, but also take part into creative workshops about cooking, dancing, drawing and so on. Jack Carvosso -Sorry I Was Miles Away-

I have been fortunate enough in the last couple of years to curate and organise three editions of Peaches & Cream, an annual photography competition, exhibition and awards taking place in London, with the aim of promoting and supporting international emerging talents. Every year I receive a great amount of submissions from all over the world and the quality of the work is stunning. I would love to introduce Jack Carvosso, a young photographer just graduated from Westminster College, who submitted his work, Sorry I Was Miles Away, just a couple of weeks ago. Carvosso deals with landscape and explores the paradigms of photography through performing solitary acts and creating sculptural forms. Often involving carefully composed performances and spontaneous feats of balance, the project disrupts the fabric of the everyday to create short narratives that lie on the boundaries of fact and fiction.
