DIRTY BIRDY BIBLE: Notes From the Road

an interesting coincidence led me to start taking photographs and brought me some opportunities to be on the road.
It was before I got into photography. I won a free trip to the US through ruffles at a shopping mall in Tokyo when I spent some time hanging around there, and it made my first trip to America.
Soon after I arrived in Minneapolis, I went to see a show at First Avenue / 7th street entry where Prince’s movie Purple Rain was filmed.
I was struck by a punk band I saw that night and asked them if I could buy their record, but for some reason, they gave me one and a few days later we started hanging around and became friends, eventually they brought me on a little weekend tour in Midwest.
After that, I started meeting more people through traveling and started going on tour with other bands.
One night, I was getting ready to leave for a tour in Minnesota, one of the band members came up to me and gave me a camera and told me to start taking photographs during the tour.
After all those experiences, I’ve got pushed into photography and I ended up making a photo book called “Dew Dew, Dew Its”.

I’ve been working on new book, exhibition and T-shirt about food and its relations. Here are some page spreads from editing.
These photos were taken in different places in Europe, North/South America, and Asian Countries including Japan.
We are expecting to have T-shirt/book release and exhibition in Tokyo late summer but depending on the current situation and circumstances…….

In New York, Times Square attracts so many different people from all over.
This area gives me illusions which composed out of enormous elements.
Time, space and matter under different rhythm and speed, but at the same time those are so real in some sense.
This project “Around 42nd and 7th” won TPD Book Award and the book was published in Italy 2018.

Moving one place to another, going into familiar and unfamiliar scenes. Countless encounters during life on the road. Things can be different but it feels like a constant repetition under a pile of time and distance. It is often the case, some random things just happen to you and we have no control over avoiding it.
This project “Chicharrón” was selected as the winner for Cosmos PDF Award during Les Rencontres d’Arles in 2018 and the book was published by Turin-based publisher Witty Books (Witty Kiwi)
