This series of photographs is a monographic work, all images were taken in Japan at the start of 2020. The title “(Also alle) Kraken” was inspired by Yōko Tawadas novel “The Last Children of Tokyo” (Japan in the near future, sealed off from other countries after a catastrophe… and the question arises: “So in another hundred thousand years we’ll all be octopi?”). As much as I am fascinated by Japan and its culture, my approach continuously moves between the priorities of formal abstraction and uncompromising realism that transports poetry or an underlying sentiment. The focus lies on details and exploring the faultlines in our society.

I keep my explanations of individual images vague and somewhat mysterious, regularly combining photography with short texts that describe everyday observations or occasionally adding small elements of collage in order to provide another layer. “Like other worlds shining through walls of rice paper…”
