A selection of images made in various locations around Indonesia and Sri Lanka, Disposables documents the excessive consumption of plastic straws in the tropical island tourism industry via a snapshot aesthetic — a manifestation of the throwaway and transient nature of exploitative “ecotourism”. Disposables looks at the way that single use straws are used and disposed of, and highlights the irony in the juxtaposition of this destructive practice with a tourist scene that is built on the fantasy of a tropical paradise in untouched natural beauty.
