Quiet as it’s kept, fleeting into open sky. Something about doubles, multiples, déjà vu, & all that passes through light. An attempt at arcana.
 
“Arcana, essential gesture” operates in slowness and secrecy in order to engage the esoteric knowledges made available in encounter and witnessing. It is made necessarily in collaboration. A modular series, the photographs aim to operate as singular and interconnected; the sequence and outtakes of photographs can be moved in and out to articulate a nonlinearity, an anyplace made of particulars. This series greatly considers the photographer’s choreography in finding footing to make the exposure, a negotiation to be had between the landscape, the sitter, myself, aiming to create without hierarchy, holding breath between takes. Using a camera I must look down into, I consider this my bowing in honor of the exchange, remaining humbled to the power and spirituality of the medium. This particular selection emerges from conversations and sequencings made in collaboration with Courtney Garvin.
