Profile

Dimo Dimov

Dimo Dimov is a fine art photographer based in Sofia, Bulgaria. Focusing on long-term projects, Dimo explores the formation of abstract concepts and ideas through the interrelation between personal memories and the surrounding reality. Dimo had gone through various life challenges being forced to drop out of school and start working to support himself and his family. Low-skilled and underpaid jobs like a construction worker, welder, driver, turner, and miller had been his options to make a living. But the search for knowledge made him attend evening high school while working full time during the day. Later on, while managing a small business in book trading, Dimo pursued higher education through getting a bachelor and master degrees and later obtained a PhD (with a dissertation, titled “The City as Space in the Prose of Joseph Brodsky”). From the perspective of his various educational and life experiences, and using literary research as a point of departure, Dimo strives to expand the textual space into imagery concepts and expose his inner perception of spatial objects through visual expression. Dimo’s project ‘Dust’ was shortlisted in the category Free Choice/Conceptual Photography of Felix Schoeller Photo Award 2017. The work of Dimo has been exhibited in places like The Reef in Los Angeles, USA; Davis Orton Gallery in Hudson, NY, USA; Palais des Congrès, Strasbourg, France; PH21 Gallery, Budapest, Hungary; Sofia History Museum, Sofia, Bulgaria, among others.
