Douglas Mandy's (b. 1989, Switzerland) is a Swiss artist graduated from ECAL. His practice critically questions the materiality, perception and essential nature of the photographic medium against the current context of the digital age. Process is paramount to Mandry; employing numerous approaches to making images that reference the history of photography, he looks to various geographical environments as his site of production. These processes are experimental and often physical where traces of such reworking are distinctly visible that consequently confront the indexical perception of photography. The result sees mountains and waves amongst other landscapes reimagined into an often colourfully new and alternative dialogue between the world, medium and viewer.
