Igor Omulecki

Photographer

Born in Łódź, Poland, in 1973, Igor Omulecki lives and works in Warsaw. His artistic stance was influenced by the Łódź post avant-garde scene; he bore witness to the most significant events in the Polish conceptual art that were taking place in Łódź in the 1980s and 1990s (Construction in Process, Manhattan Dungeons, Artists’ Museum). He has been exposed to the film school and artist community of Łódź since his childhood years. He studied at the cinematography and photography department at the Łódź Film School, following which, since 1998, he has been active and successful as an artist dealing with photography and experimental film. He is working with the leading cultural institutions, galleries and magazines, scoring multiple awards in various competitions. His record includes dozens of press publications and exhibitions. He made his reputation in Poland by revolutionizing the photographic portraiture, creating the now iconic portraits of key figures of the Polish culture. Currently a lecturer at the Academy of Art in Szczecin, Omulecki continues his artistic practice. His work has turned in recent years towards conceptual art, focusing mainly on the question of visual perception.
