Profile
Justin Keene
Photographer
Justin is a self-taught, South Africa-focused documentary photographer. His independent projects create intimate social dialogues, reframing the documentary approach as a collaborative process with the people he photographs. His work evaluates our sense of belonging in modern South Africa, using photography to explore society in response to the country's photographic history and visual economy. His work has previously been featured online for Nataal, It’s Nice That, Life Framer and Aint-Bad, and in selected group shows and publications: LensCulture; Sony World Photo; BJP’s Portrait of Britain; New European Photography x GUP; The Lucie Foundation, The Independent Photographer and The Photo Vogue Festival 2019. Moving forward he intends to produce a book of his current work that explores his own family history in South Africa through the archive; focusing on research methods as a way of reinterpreting historical narratives in contemporary contexts.
