Martin Brandau

Photographer

Martin Brandau was born and raised in Hamburg, Germany, in 1972. Since his youth, he has dealt with photography (prize winner of the German Youth Photopreis and Videopreis). During his studies of "Visuelle Kommunikation" at the Bauhaus University in Weimar, he spent several months in Accra, Ghana. The diploma (2001) was followed by an internship as picture editor in the weekly newspaper "DIE ZEIT". Here he also worked several years as freelancer (picture editor and photograph). In the same year his diploma photo work " I AM" was exhibited at the Reinhart-Wolf-Preis in the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg. From 2008 -2013 he went to Ghana. His photographic works were shown and publicated national and international i.e. in the European cultural institutes Alliance Francaise and Goethe Institut. The photo work "VISA ME" was shown 2015 Selection at the internationale Prix VOIES OFF 2015 in Arles, and 2017 at the analog photofestival Revela-T in Barcelona. In May 2017 lecture "Visa Me! and other photo projects in Ghana“ by Martin Brandau within the Artist Talk of the Colloquium on the Art of Africa at the Freie Universität in Berlin by Prof. Dr. Tobias Wendl. Since 2014 he lives as an artist in Berlin .
