Robin Butter
Photographer
My name is Robin Butter a documentary photographer from The Hague, The Netherlands. At a young age I wanted to become an archaeologist, because of my interest in Western history. In my youthful fantasy, digging and researching in dirt had something adventurous. Photography has become for me a tool to dig into the realm of cultural phenomena(s). To be able to escape my own reality and everyday life. Searching for those in the people and stories I photograph; in environments that seem stranger than fiction. Exploring the meaning of history and myths. Archive-material is often the starting point or integrating eventually in the stories in its own way. I Collaborate regularly with various archives in the Netherlands, for example the Municipal Archives in The Hague. Graduated from the Royal Academy of Arts, The Hague in 2014. About shooting clubs in the Netherlands entitled "It Takes My Mind Off Things". The story was self-published as a photo book in November 2015, with the launch at Paris Photo. Currently working on a project and collaborating with Beesel a village in Limburg, in the South of the Netherlands. Who are since the early 1700s every 7 years in need to be liberated from a dragon, titled ‘Drakeblood’.
