Page Impressions
Page Impressions, at Museum of Applied Arts Cologne, features a selection of international photography magazines, which take as their curatorial subject, documentary- and fine art photography. Most of these publications were produced with minimal budgets in small editions (as opposed to other more mainstream photography publications produced in larger print runs).
The audience is invited to touch and leaf through the pages of the magazines displayed at the Designlounge, so as to get a better sense of each curatorial project and each issue as a whole. Every publication is exhibited with an accompanying information sheet, describing the different histories, ideas and production processes.
At the same time as the show the city will be host to the photokina Cologne. Page Impressions will be part of International Photoszene Festival. The Museum of Applied Arts will show the exhibition “Willy Fleckhaus – Design, Revolt, Rainbow”.
Page Impression is curated and organised by Sylvia Ballhause and Markus Weckesser. Sylvia Ballhause organized the 2013 conference, SeitenAnsichten, focusing on independent photography magazines, which was held at theGalerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst Leipzig (The Museum of Contemporary Art Leipzig). She studied fine art photography at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig (Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig) and is currently working at Zephyr – Raum für Fotografie in Mannheim. Markus Weckesser is a cultural journalist and part of the team from The Photo Book Museum in Cologne.
