Edition № 005 feat. Sarah Straßmann, Adrian Samson, Alnis Stakle

Edition № 005 combines the works of Sarah Straßmann (Germany), Adrian Samson (UK) and Alnis Stakle (Latvia). The editions of Der Greif are based on a cooperative principle between the submitting photographers and Der Greif, therefore all parties are compensated for each sold edition.

Based on the exhibition »A Process«, Der Greif presents high-quality limited editions featuring 18 international, selected photographers. These editions – showing new compositions and combinations – ask the viewer to reconsider rigid concepts of conventional photographic editions. De- and re-contextualization is core principle of Der Greif, setting images next to each other in order to establish powerful dialogues, allowing images to grow and creating new imaginary worlds.

Sarah Straßmann is a photographer and artist born in 1980 in East Westphalia. Since 2012 she lives in Berlin. She is a Ph.D. candidate in fine arts at Bauhaus University Weimar, before she made her masters degree with Emanuel Raab after finishing her studies in photography and media at Fachhochschule Bielefeld. Sarah Straßmann’s works are exhibited internationally, e.g. at Haus der Fotografie – Deichtorhallen Hamburg, Art Foyer of DZ Bank Kunstsammlung Frankfurt Main, Goethe Institut Washington DC, Fotomuseum Winterthur, New Museum Weimar, museum for applied arts Cologne and at f/Stop Festival Leipzig. With her work »The Void« she won »gute aussichten – young German photography« in 2008/09.

Adrian Samson spent 4 years on the Caribbean, in the U.S. and a year in Canada before making the U.K. his home in 2004. He was born in 1974 in Slovakia to Hungarian parents. With a studio in North-East London his diverse body of work is infused with an instinctive use of light, which has an often apparent cinematic feel and reveals his fascination for film. Adrian’s work has found a strong foothold in both the commercial and the art world. His artwork has been shown in solo and group exhibitions and won him numerous awards. Adrian’s portfolio is regularly picked and showcased in various art publications. He frequently holds lectures at photographic schools and art events.

Alnis Stakle (1975) lives and works in Latvia. He holds a PhD in art education. Since 1998, his work has been exhibited in the Latvian Museum of Photography, Latvian National Museum of Art, The Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art, Modern Art Oxford, Langhans gallery in Prague, Art Center »Winzavod« in Moscow, »Gostiny Dvor« Museum and Exhibition Complex in Archangelsk, Regional Art Museum in Tjumen, Museum Center in Krasnojarsk, Russia State Center of Photography in St. Petersburg, Contemporary Art Museum in Santo Domingo, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires, Museum of Modern Art Carlos Merida of Guatemala City, and the Centre for Fine Arts BOZAR in Brussells.
