Profile
Colin Pantall
Photographer
Colin is a photographer and writer based in Bath.
His current photographic work focusses on his immediate environment, especially his domestic life. His first book, All Quiet on the Home Front will be launched at Paris Photo 2017. This looks at the links between landscape and the relationship between a parent and his child; how this develops, and changes, how entropy and loss are central to the relationship.
He is currently working on his German Family Album, a series of family album's where the personal traumas of failed relationships, secret love, suicide and lost opportunity form an uneasy relationship with the rise of Nazism, apparent in the family album images as the 1920s pass into the 1930s and beyond.
His writing and photography has appeared in publications including Aperture, Photo-Eye, The British Journal of Photography, The Far Eastern Economic Review and The International Herald Tribune.
He completed an MA in Documentary Photography at the University of Wales, Newport in 2006. His work has since been exhibited in Amsterdam, Rome, Venice and at The National Portrait Gallery in London and he is a regular presenter at photography festivals including Paris Photo, Photobook Vienna, Gazebook Sicily Photobook Bristol.
Colin currently teaches at UWE and Bath Spa University and he is also an active member of IC Visual Labs, Bristol’s most dynamic and creative independent photography cooperative.
