Eeva-Mari Haikala

Eeva-Mari Haikala (born 1974) is a Finnish visual artist based in Helsinki, Finland and Brussels, Belgium. She holds a practice-as-research PhD from Performance Studies (Roehampton University London Drama, Theatre and Performance Study). Previously she has two MA's from University of Arts and Design Helsinki (Visual Arts), other from University of Helsinki (Art History). Haikala is multidisciplinary artist working with video, photography and performance. Her doctoral research were focused on the questions of the painterly on lens-based art practise and autobiography/ biography / historiography. She draws themes from art history and from body based art for her own practise. Some examples of Haikala's solo shows: V/MSP Gallery Brussels (2017); WIELS Project Room Brussels (2016); Helsinki Museum of Photography Project-room (2013) Helsinki City Art Museum's Kluuvi Gallery (2008); Turku Art Museum Darkroom space (2008); Spacex Gallery Exeter (2007);Helsinki Kunsthalle Studio space (2006). She has taken part of numerous group exhibitions such as: Helsinki Kunsthalle Me: Self-Portrairs Through Time (2017); Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art It's a Set-Up (2010); Co-Exist Gallery Southend-On-Sea (2012). Haikala's works are in many Finnish public collections: Helsinki City Art Museum; Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art; South Carelia Art Museum; Finnish State Art Collections.
