Frances Kearney

Photographer

Frances Kearney (b.1970, UK) studied at the Royal College of Art, London (1996–98) and lives and works in Norfolk and London. Kearney’s early work used photography to explore psychological states, depicting mostly female protagonists situated in mundane everyday interior environments. Kearney’s recent series explore the journey from girlhood to womanhood alongside the notion of ruin – past, present and future. These constructed fictitious narratives shot outdoors often in post industrial settings address the need for ritual in order to survive life within today’s modern world – a world of speed and sonic and sensory overload. Solitude, quietude, escape, and the individual engagement with nature are amongst Kearney’s enquiries as is how one maintains one’s sense of private self. Kearney has participated in group shows Nationally and Internationally. Exhibitions include Dreamlands, 1999.
