Iulia Filipovscaia (b. 3 April, 1985; Mirniy, Yakutia, Russia) Iulia is an artist, curator and designer living in London. She holds a B.A. in Fine Arts from Central St. Martins College of Art and Design, and a M.A. in Image and Communication from Goldsmiths, University of London. Her work has been shortlisted for Salon Photo Prize 2011, Matt Robert's Arts and she has exhibited at 176 Gallery/ Zabludowicz Collection for Testing Ground: Live at 176. Filipovscaia was chosen to present her work at The Photographers Gallery for Folio Forum and at Members Photo Forum, Photofusion. Due to my background and upbringing in a small diamond-mining town Mirniy, Yakutia, experiences of severe climate conditions, vast wild landscapes and direct connection and interaction with nature have defined my first physical encounters with the surrounding environment. Hence, Nature has been a constant source of inspiration for my multidisciplinary art practice.
