Joel Orozco
Photographer
The main focus of my work revolves around the understanding of photography as a visual language. Throughout my early career, I have demonstrated a keen sense of experimentation with this language in order to explore and expand the role of the people and objects portrayed in my work. Therefore, I challenge the concept of photography to capture the reality that my mind perceives, because, photography is not only about seeing with your eyes, but it is also about using the imagination. I was born in Los Angeles California, but raised in Chihuahua Mexico, about an hour away from the capital; in a small village name Santa Barbara De Tutuaca. . I considered myself to be an autodidact person who burst into the world of photography by buying my first cameras (a Kodak z1012is point and shoot digital camera and a Minolta Hi Matic 9 rangefinder 35mm film camera) at a flea market then began playing with composition and natural light thereby learning how to observe my surroundings. was also a film enthusiast and explored all other art forms. I graduated with a BA from the School of Art at the California Institute of the Arts.
