Maja Daniels

Photographer

Maja Daniels’ photographic work focuses on identity construction and human relations in a Western, contemporary environment. For the last decade she has developed and completed several self-initiated, long-term personal projects, creatively combining photography and sociology. She is the recipient of numerous awards, such as the 2011 Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize, the 2013 Contour by Getty Portrait Prize and the 2015 Arbetets Museum's Photodocumentary award (Sweden). In 2016 she was a finalist in the International Festival of Fashion and Photography in Hyeres, France. In 2013 she had her first solo exhibition at Galerie Polka in Paris, France. Her photographs have also been included in exhibitions at venues such as The Photographers Gallery (London), The National Portrait Gallery (London) and included in internationally acclaimed photo festivals such as Getxophoto (Bilbao, Spain) and Ghent Photo Festival (Belgium). Maja has received bursaries to develop personal projects from The Open Society Foundation (US), The John Kobal Foundation (UK), the Arts Council (UK) and the Swedish Arts Grants Committee. She is frequently invited by universities, independent organisations and galleries to talk about her work and her approach to photography. She also collaborates regularly with the international weekly and monthly press. Maja is currently developing her practice to include both sound, moving image as well as archive and found footage.
