Rafael Roncato

Photographer

Rafael Roncato (Brazil, 1989) is a photographer, editor and visual artist working between Brazil and the Netherlands. With a Master in Photography & Society at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK) and a Bachelor in Multimedia Journalism, Rafael seeks to highlight the connection between images, power structures and belief systems through semifictional narratives.  Passionate about comics, Brazilian modernism, creative processes and identity, he uses non-linear methods to put the current media landscape in perspective. In 2021, he was co-idealizer and curator of the open call The Urban Between Reality and Utopia, an international partnership between Tiradentes (BR) and Rotterdam (NL) photo festivals. He is a member of Havaiana Papers collective and co-founder of Cartography Digest. His project Adágio, a collaboration with artist Laerte Coutinho, has already participated in individual and collective shows, besides integrating the first original Netflix Brazilian documentary, Laerte-se, directed by Lygia Barbosa da Silva and Eliane Brum, and integrating Schwules Museum’s Collection.
